We pursue art as the organization of truth towards beauty

As a universal definition of art, many would find it wanting. As a declaration of our intent? We find it deeply attractive. There’s nothing more powerful than the truth. And yet, the truth shocks and confronts us as much as it comforts and heals. The depths of evil and depravity are as true as the loftiest expressions of our best moments and thoughts. That why we want to organize and frame that truth towards beauty. But like truth, beauty is complex. The quiet emptiness and searing heat of a desert landscape express beauty equal to a soft grassy meadow, and yet couldn’t be more different. There is beauty in refined taste and exquisite execution. But isn’t it also beautiful to be in the presence of someone who has suffered greatly, and yet is strangely not broken, but whole enough to give love freely? Perhaps this is the deepest truth - redemption changes everything. And that is deeply beautiful.

The term “fine art” typically implies a desire and direction toward excellence, refinement, and skill. But for us, it is the aim or purpose that most distinguishes the “fine” in the art. We like art that raises the human spirit. That points toward truths larger than any or even all of us. It is intended to help reset our collective compasses toward truth, beauty, and goodness. No matter how dark the subject, the reality of redemption changes everything. We take our responsibility as artists to mean that we don’t leave people in despair or anguish, even if that’s part of the journey.

Sometimes, this is difficult music played with great skill; sometimes, it is simple music played with utter mastery and touching poignancy. It is music that points toward faith, hope and love, and their eternal center in all that is good and right. It’s not classical music, it’s not jazz, or any other genre. It isn’t a tempo, a style, or an instrument choice either.

But the effect on the human spirit is undeniable, and the fineness is a product of the artist's inner journey combined with musical dedication. This transcends culture, place, and time and touches the human spirit in the way that only art can. This is the art we want to produce and cause to flourish on the earth.
